47-Year-Old Chinese Supervisor Dies After Collapse at Kogi Ceramics Factory

A 47-year-old Chinese national, Mr. Luo Zhi Mao, who served as a supervisor at BN Ceramics in Ajaokuta, has died after collapsing at work, the Kogi State Police Command has confirmed.

According to Hobnob News, the incident occurred on Saturday, August 2, around 6:30 p.m., while Mr. Luo was on duty at the Press Department of the factory. He reportedly collapsed unexpectedly and was immediately rushed to Covenant Hospital in Ajaokuta for emergency care.

Due to the limited facilities, he was referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja. However, upon arrival, the hospital was unable to admit him as doctors and nurses were on strike. He was subsequently transferred to Shifaah Hospital, also in Lokoja.

Despite medical efforts, Mr. Luo died on Tuesday night, August 5, around 9:30 p.m.

Zagazola Makama, a prominent security analyst, disclosed the details of the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, raising concerns over the impact of the ongoing health workers’ strike on emergency cases.

The police confirmed that Mr. Luo’s remains have been deposited at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

Authorities say no foul play is suspected at this stage, but investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are still ongoing.
