Kano, Nigeria — The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential bid for a second term in 2027. The party also reaffirmed Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the undisputed leader of the APC in the state.
The unanimous endorsements were made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday at Ganduje’s residence in Kano. Though the former APC National Chairman was not present in person—currently in the United Kingdom on medical grounds—he was seen in a viral video actively monitoring the meeting from London.
Dr. Ganduje had voluntarily stepped down from his position as the party’s national chairman on June 27, 2025, citing health-related reasons.
Addressing the gathering, Kano APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, said the meeting was convened to strengthen internal party cohesion, resolve outstanding issues, and prepare strategically for future electoral contests.
“We are fully committed to the success of President Tinubu and our great party. This meeting is about consolidating our base, strengthening our unity, and positioning the APC to win convincingly in 2027,” Abbas stated.
He emphasized the party’s openness to reconciliation, extending an olive branch to aggrieved members and even welcoming possible alignments with the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
The stakeholders’ meeting was well-attended by influential party leaders and government officials. Among them were:
Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kano
Kabir Bichi, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation
Senator Kawu Sumaila, Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream)
Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, Minister of State for FCT
Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo Ata, Minister of Housing and Urban Development
Members of the National and State Assemblies
The event served as both a reaffirmation of party unity and a strategic step toward galvanizing support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
