KANO – The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has officially resigned following the conclusion of an investigation into his alleged involvement in securing bail for a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.
The resignation comes just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of the fact-finding committee constituted to probe the matter.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, Namadi stated that his decision was driven by public interest and the sensitive nature of the issue at hand.
“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be,” Namadi said.
While maintaining his innocence, the former commissioner emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity and values of the government he served.
“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state,” he stated, expressing gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledging loyalty to the administration’s guiding principles.
Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation and extended his best wishes to Namadi in his future endeavours.
“The governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to justice, discipline, and the continued fight against drug-related crimes and social vices threatening the wellbeing of Kano’s youth and society at large,” the statement added.
He further cautioned political appointees to exercise discretion when handling matters of public interest and to seek proper authorisation before engaging in sensitive issues.
According to Hobnob News, the report from the investigative committee, which was presented earlier this week, found Namadi culpable of negligence. The panel, led by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Aminu Hussain, revealed that Namadi acted without due diligence when he stood as surety for the suspected drug dealer, Danwawu.
The report was submitted to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, and described the commissioner’s actions as falling short of the administration’s standards for responsible leadership.
