Tragedy in Abuja: Nanny, Toddler Murdered as Kidnappers Fight Over N3m Ransom

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, David Moses, in connection with the brutal murder of a 55-year-old school nurse, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, and a 14-month-old child, Nanenter Yese, in Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja.

Moses, a private security guard assigned to the school, confessed to the heinous act during a press briefing on Friday, revealing that he and an accomplice, Sunday Irimiya—who is currently at large—conspired to abduct the victims for ransom.

Initially demanding ₦250 million, the kidnappers later settled for ₦3 million, which was paid before the victims were killed.

“What brought me here is that I killed a child and a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. My friend and I demanded ₦250 million, but we later collected ₦3 million,” Moses said.

According to the suspect, the plan turned deadly after a dispute over how to share the ransom money. In the confrontation, Sunday allegedly stabbed Moses, took the ransom money, and fled.

“He stabbed me and ran off with the money. I went to someone’s house to ask for help. I didn’t tell them the full truth at first because I feared for my life,” Moses admitted.

Describing how the nurse was murdered, Moses said Sunday strangled her with a rope in a pre-planned ambush inside the school’s toilet. He added that the toddler was later abducted and murdered on Sunday’s insistence, despite his initial objections.

“Sunday said if we didn’t kill the child, the ransom wouldn’t be enough. So I went and brought the baby,” Moses recounted grimly.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, confirmed that both victims were reported missing on July 23, 2025, and a ransom demand was made using the nurse’s mobile phone the same day.

Investigations led to Moses’ arrest and confession. The school principal, two security guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the private firm that employed Moses have also been arrested.

The security company, represented by Fiyinfoluwa Olanrewaju, admitted to failing to keep proper records of Moses’ employment, including his guarantor details.

“For us not to keep the record, I accept that it’s our fault,” Olanrewaju stated during questioning.

The police say a manhunt is ongoing for the second suspect, Sunday Irimiya, while investigations continue to ensure justice is served.
