The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming Anambra State election, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, narrowly escaped death on Friday night after he was shot by gunmen suspected to be assassins in Abuja.
According to Hobnob News, Ezenwafor was attacked in the Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory while returning home from an appointment. The assailants reportedly opened fire on his vehicle, seriously injuring him and two others accompanying him.
Speaking from his hospital bed at a private medical facility in Abuja early Saturday morning, Ezenwafor recounted the harrowing experience, describing it as a “near-death situation.”
“I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate me so that they can pull out bullets from my body,” he told reporters, visibly in pain and with medical staff preparing him for surgery.
Details about the identities of the other two victims remain sketchy, but hospital sources say all three are in stable condition and receiving intensive medical care.
The motive for the attack is yet to be officially established, but the shocking incident has raised concerns over the security of political candidates ahead of the Anambra governorship election.
The PDP leadership has yet to release an official statement, but party insiders say consultations are ongoing and that the matter has been reported to relevant security agencies.
As investigations begin, Nigerians and political stakeholders alike are calling on law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.¸
