The crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened in Osun State as Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned his membership of the party.
Fadeyi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State. He confirmed the authenticity of the letter in a message to Hobnob News on Saturday.
In the letter, Fadeyi cited “irreconcilable differences” and the “irreparable division” within the PDP at the national level, exacerbated by court cases and internal factionalism over the past three years.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends,” the letter stated.
His resignation comes just days after Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, also quit the party. Fadahunsi, a two-term senator, made his resignation public in a letter dated June 12, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4 in his constituency.
Like Fadeyi, Fadahunsi also pointed to the protracted internal crisis and legal disputes within the PDP as the reason for his exit.
Both senators expressed their decisions were reached after broad consultations with their close allies and constituents.
The twin resignations mark a significant blow to the PDP’s standing in Osun State and could signal a shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, neither senator has publicly disclosed their next political affiliation.
