In a significant step toward enhancing security and emergency response in Benue State’s Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps, the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, on Wednesday unveiled a refurbished security vehicle at the agency’s headquarters in Makurdi.
The refurbished vehicle is designed to bolster surveillance operations and improve rapid response capabilities of security personnel stationed at various IDP camps across the state.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Sir Iorpuu emphasized that the initiative forms part of BSEMA’s broader commitment to safeguarding vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement. He stressed that the agency remains focused not only on humanitarian relief but also on creating a stable and secure environment within displacement camps.
“This gesture reflects our proactive approach to ensuring the safety and welfare of our displaced citizens. As security concerns persist in various parts of the state, we are taking practical measures to protect those most at risk,” he stated.
Security personnel assigned to IDP camps who witnessed the ceremony expressed gratitude to the BSEMA boss and pledged to utilize the vehicle effectively to enhance camp safety.
The refurbished unit is expected to significantly improve mobility and reduce emergency response time, reinforcing the agency’s drive toward efficient and responsive security operations.
Observers have hailed the initiative as a sign of renewed focus on the protection of displaced families and an example of responsible leadership during challenging times.
