The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed the Monterosa Construction site after a crane accident occurred there around 7:30 a.m.
According to officials who arrived promptly, crane operator Mr. Rotimi Adesina suffered fatal injuries during the incident. He was taken to Evercare Hospital, Lekki Phase 1, where he was confirmed dead.
The site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer was attending to Mr. Adesina at the time and was unavailable for immediate questioning.
Safety officials met with the Project Manager, Mr. Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Mr. Ndidi Uchechukwu, who stated that all crane-related documents are stored at the company’s Head Office. The Commission has now directed the company to submit all necessary documentation regarding the crane and project operations for a comprehensive review.
The Director General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, ordered the site sealed and an abatement notice issued to remove any immediate hazards and protect workers.
Mojola stressed that protecting lives is paramount and emphasised that safety protocols must never be compromised. He added that further updates would be shared as investigations continue.
The Director General extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public of the Commission’s commitment to preventing similar incidents through strict enforcement of safety regulations.
