The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it describes as “serial disappearances,” following his quiet return to Abuja five days after the conclusion of the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In a statement signed by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC noted that while all other world leaders who attended the summit returned home and briefed their citizens, President Tinubu only resurfaced in the early hours of Sunday, July 13th, without addressing Nigerians or offering any explanation for the delay.
“The President was not on holidays; he was on official duty. We cannot wish those five days away. We demand a clear explanation,” the party stated.
The ADC expressed concern that such lack of accountability over the President’s overseas movements has become a pattern under Tinubu’s administration. The statement recalled several instances:
In January 2024, a “private visit” to France that turned into a two-week disappearance.
In April 2024, after the World Economic Forum in Riyadh ended on April 29th, Tinubu remained unheard from until May 8th.
In August 2024, Tinubu travelled to China, vanished from public view for six days, then appeared in London without explanation.
Also in August 2024, a brief Paris visit saw him incommunicado for three days.
“These serial disappearances spark damaging speculations and endanger Nigeria’s global reputation,” the ADC warned, urging Nigerians to pay close attention.
“A President that vanishes without accountability cannot be trusted to solve the crises we face,” Abdullahi added, stressing that any ruling party defending such actions “has nothing but contempt for the people.”
