The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has expressed strong optimism about winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the ongoing Local Government election scheduled for Saturday.
Speaking with journalists in Agege, the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Seye Oladejo, said the APC’s confidence stemmed from its consistent performance at the local, state, and federal levels, which he described as unmatched by any opposition party in the state.
“There is no doubt around APC victory, but it is how massive the voting is. This local government election is a preparation for the 2027 election,” Oladejo stated.
According to Hobnob News, Oladejo stressed that the APC remains the party of choice across the 57 Local Government Areas in the state, with the opposition described as “almost non-existent.”
“Aside from this, there is no alternative to APC in Lagos based on our performance at various levels—local governments, states, and federal government,” he added.
The party spokesperson noted that while the voting exercise was peaceful, voter turnout was relatively low in some areas. He said, however, that there were signs of growing enthusiasm among the electorate as the day progressed.
“The conversation is now around how our people will come out to vote. People are showing enthusiasm to fulfill their civic responsibility,” he said.
Oladejo also acknowledged logistical delays in some polling units, revealing that the voting exercise commenced later than scheduled in certain locations.
“I also need to put it on record that the exercise started a little bit late. When this happens, there should be an extension of voting time so that we will not deny the people that are supposed to vote,” he said.
He called on electoral officials to ensure that all eligible voters are given the opportunity to cast their ballots and urged Lagosians to come out en masse to elect their local government chairmen and councillors.
As the polls continue, all eyes remain on Lagos to see whether the APC’s confidence will translate into a clean sweep at the grassroots level.
