Nigerian National Arrested in Mumbai for Cocaine Possession, Claims Drugs Were Planted

A 39-year-old Nigerian man, Frank Chibuzar Nandi, was arrested on Saturday by the Worli unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in Mumbai for allegedly being in possession of 200 grams of cocaine, valued at ₹2 crore. The arrest took place near PJ Colony, Orlem Marve Road in the Malad area.

According to police, the operation was based on a specific tip-off. Officers reportedly intercepted Nandi carrying a bag, which upon search, was found to contain a white powder suspected to be a narcotic substance. A field drug test later confirmed it to be cocaine. In addition to the drugs, police also seized a Honda City car in Nandi’s possession. A panchnama was prepared on the spot.

However, Nandi has denied the charges, alleging that the drugs were planted and that he is being falsely implicated. He made the claims while appearing before a Holiday Court on Sunday.

“The police simply arrested me, planted the bag on me, took photos and videos, and later said the seizure was drugs. I completely deny this,” Nandi told the court when asked if he had any complaints.

The court advised him to engage legal representation. Nandi, however, requested to speak with his wife first before appointing a lawyer. The magistrate then directed the police to allow him to make a phone call.

Nandi remains in custody as further investigation continues.
