The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) on Friday called on the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to comply with a recent ruling of the Abuja Federal High Court which found her in contempt of court.
The court, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, had ruled that Senator Natasha acted in defiance of an earlier court order by issuing a satirical public apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The judge described the action as a mockery of the court’s gag order and fined the lawmaker N5 million.
Justice Nyako’s ruling came months after a public clash between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio. According to reports by Hobnob News, the Senator had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment following a heated exchange on the Senate floor over a proposed rearrangement of seating. The Senate later suspended Natasha for six months, citing a breach of parliamentary conduct. Akpabio subsequently filed a legal complaint against her.
In a statement reacting to the court’s judgment, NEYGA’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Dan-Musa, emphasized the need for the suspended Senator to respect judicial and institutional authority.
“The court’s judgment is crystal clear. The Senate leadership acted within the law,” Dan-Musa said. “Natasha must stop playing the victim, pay her fine, tender an apology and quit embarrassing Kogi Central with this endless drama.”
He further criticized the embattled lawmaker for what he described as an attempt to manipulate public sentiment while showing disregard for legal processes.
“This isn’t about Natasha’s ego; it’s about respecting institutions. If she truly cares for her people, she’ll swallow her pride and comply,” Dan-Musa added.
As of the time of this report, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has not issued a formal response to the court ruling or NEYGA’s statement.
