Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has described the death of the Elekusa of Ekusa, His Royal Majesty Oba John Omoloso Makanjuola Oyelusi III, as a monumental loss to the state and its traditional institutions.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the revered monarch, who died at the age of 83 on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
“I’m deeply touched by the news of the passing of HRM Oba John Omoloso Makanjuola (Oyelusi III), the Elekusa of Ekusa in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State,” the Governor stated. “Kabiyesi lived for his people, utilising his position to foster unity and peace in his domain. His passing has left a huge vacuum — especially for those who benefited from his wisdom and progressive leadership.”
Governor Adeleke extended heartfelt condolences to the late monarch’s immediate family, with special mention of his son, Prince Kunle Makanjuola, who serves as the Chairman of RATTAWU (Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union) in Osun State. He also commiserated with the royal family and the people of Ekusa town.
“The reign of Oba Oyelusi III brought meaningful development to the ancient town of Ekusa. His legacy of service and commitment to his people will be remembered for generations,” the Governor added.
The death of the monarch was formally announced on Monday, June 30, by his son, Prince Adekunle Makanjuola, who said in a statement, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and ruler, Oba John Omoloso Makanjuola Oyelusi III. He passed peacefully and will be greatly missed by the entire Ekusa community.”
According to the royal family, burial arrangements for the late monarch will be announced in due course in collaboration with the Ekusa traditional council.
Oba Oyelusi III, a highly respected traditional ruler known for his dedication to peace, progress, and the cultural heritage of Ekusa, is remembered as a pillar of wisdom and unity whose impact went beyond the borders of his kingdom.
