The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of five people following the detonation of a military-grade explosive at a scrap collection company located along the Eastern Bypass in Kano on Saturday.
According to reports by Hobnob News, the explosion occurred when a vehicle suspected to be carrying military-grade explosive materials, en route from Yobe State, arrived at the facility. The blast resulted in severe injuries to several people and caused significant damage at the site.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said he received an emergency call regarding the explosion and immediately proceeded to the location.
“On arrival, I witnessed the explosion scene. It was a military EOD personnel. It was a military model bomb that exploded. 15 people were injured and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” CP Bakori stated.
He added that upon arrival at the hospital, five of the injured victims were confirmed dead, while ten others are currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle involved in the incident originated from Yobe State. “Though the matter is still under investigation, I was informed that the vehicle carrying the bomb was a truck from Yobe state,” CP Bakori said.
He assured the public that further details would be released as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal experts are continuing their assessments to ensure public safety. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the movement of military-grade weapons across state lines.
