Nigeria’s First Female Fighter Pilot, Kafayat Sanni, Shines at Ghana Military College

Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has made history once again at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra. She was named Best Allied Student and also received the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award.

The announcement was made on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. He stated that the awards were presented during the College’s graduation ceremony on Friday, which was attended by senior military officials and dignitaries from across the continent.

Sanni first gained national recognition in 2019 when she was decorated as the Nigerian Air Force’s first female fighter pilot after completing training in the United States. Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet and conducted training sorties on the Super Mushshak as an instructor pilot, playing a key role in mentoring the next generation of pilots.

Ejodame said her achievements at GAFCSC are a testament to her excellence and resilience, and they highlight Nigeria’s leadership in regional defence as well as its commitment to gender inclusion in the military. He added that her success reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic focus on human capital development, driven by the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.
