The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research, and Planning, over serious allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
According to a statement from the EFCC, operatives from its Makurdi Zonal Directorate apprehended Aondona on Friday, June 20, 2025, following a series of petitions submitted by female students accusing the governor’s aide of engaging in unethical and criminal conduct.
The petitioners allege that Aondona routinely recruited slim and attractive young women for ushering jobs but demanded sexual favors as a condition for their selection. It was further claimed that he secretly recorded sexual encounters without the victims’ consent and later used the videos to blackmail them into continued sexual exploitation.
Several of the victims reported receiving threats from Aondona, who allegedly circulated explicit videos through various messaging platforms. Some of these recordings are reportedly already in public circulation, raising concerns about widespread privacy violations and psychological trauma inflicted on the victims.
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the preliminary process.
The arrest has sparked outrage among civil society groups and student organizations, with many calling for a thorough prosecution and justice for the victims.
