Nigerian international football star Victor Osimhen has opened up about the harsh realities of his childhood in Lagos, revealing the odd jobs he took on to survive before launching his professional football career.
In a candid interview with broadcaster Daddy Freeze, recently released and now trending across social media, the Super Eagles forward recounted growing up in the densely populated Olusosun area of Lagos, where he performed menial tasks to make ends meet.
“There was a building in front of my house, like a face-me-I-face-you,” Osimhen recalled. “I used to fetch water for people upstairs for N80, and sometimes I cleaned the gutters, even when green things were coming out of it.”
According to Hobnob News, the Napoli striker described earning between N30 and N80 for each job—whether hauling buckets of water or clearing out household drainage—while helping his family cope with financial hardship.
The honest revelations from Osimhen, who is now one of the highest-paid African players in European football, have struck a chord with fans. Social media has been flooded with praise for his humility and grit, with many Nigerians drawing inspiration from his story of perseverance.
Osimhen’s journey from the muddy alleys of Olusosun to global football stardom serves as a powerful testament to resilience and determination. Today, he is not only a key player for Italian Serie A club Napoli but also a central figure in Nigeria’s national team.
His story adds to the growing narrative of Nigerian athletes who overcame immense odds to achieve success on the international stage—offering hope to millions of young people across the country chasing their own dreams.
