Major Political Shake-Up as Ex-VP Sambo’s Ally, Sani Sidi, Joins APC with Supporters in Kaduna

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 election cycle, Muhammad Sani Sidi, a prominent political ally of former Vice President Namadi Sambo and ex-Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.

The defection, which took place on Wednesday at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex, drew top APC figures, including Governor Uba Sani, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas.

A Homecoming Welcomed by APC Leadership

Welcoming Sidi and his loyalists into the party, Governor Uba Sani described the moment as one of the most significant in the history of APC in Kaduna State.

“Muhammad Sani Sidi is back to APC because we are building this state on justice and inclusive governance. His decision is not driven by personal ambition, but by a genuine desire to uplift our people and contribute to the growth of our dear state,” the governor remarked.

He hailed Sidi’s track record in public service, stating that his entrance into the party would further strengthen the APC’s grassroots appeal.

“He is a man of capacity and character, and we are proud to welcome him back to the fold,” he added.

Speaker Abbas: Defection Shows APC’s National Appeal

Also speaking at the event, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas praised Governor Sani’s inclusive leadership and noted that Sidi’s defection underscores APC’s growing influence across political divides.

“This is a reflection of the national unity the APC is fostering. It demonstrates that our message of progress and service resonates with Nigerians from all walks of life,” Abbas said.

Sidi: ‘We’re Not Just Defecting, We’re Partnering for Progress’

In his address, Sani Sidi described his return to the APC as a carefully considered decision rooted in shared values and a commitment to development.

“It is with humility, gratitude, and unwavering conviction that I announce my official defection to the APC—a party I believe holds the promise of a better Kaduna State and a greater Nigeria,” he declared.

He lauded Governor Uba Sani’s achievements in infrastructure, youth development, education, and security, crediting them with restoring confidence in governance.

Sidi also praised Speaker Abbas for his legislative leadership and noted that his own political mission has always been to “uplift lives and empower our people.”

According to Sidi, months of consultations with stakeholders across all 23 local government areas informed the decision to join APC, noting that the party aligns with his vision for sustainable development.

“We are here not merely as defectors, but as partners in progress. We believe in the APC’s capacity to deliver,” he stated.

Mass Movement: Key PDP Figures Join APC

Sidi announced that several senior PDP members had defected alongside him, including:

Two former State PDP Chairmen

A former State Party Secretary

A former Member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly

He pledged full loyalty to the APC and assured party leadership of his readiness to work tirelessly toward building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Kaduna State.
