President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a bold and visionary step in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the new national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, President Tinubu commended Wike’s leadership and commitment to national development.
“By initiating this project, Wike has taken another important step towards the protection of our democracy in this country,” the President declared. “I say thank you very much. I salute your vision and commitment towards the progress and development of our country.”
According to Hobnob News, the president also extended appreciation to the leadership of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and INEC for their dedication and resolve in laying what he called “a stronger foundation for our democracy.”
President Tinubu urged all stakeholders involved in the construction — including contractors and supervisors — to prioritize quality, speed, and integrity in the execution of the project. “You are not just building an edifice,” he said, “you are building trust in our nation.”
Addressing Nigerians, Tinubu emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in upholding democratic values.
“Democracy is not a destination but a journey,” he noted. “Together, let us strengthen our institutions, safeguard our freedom, and protect the future.”
The construction of the new INEC headquarters is expected to enhance the Commission’s operational efficiency and symbolize a deeper commitment to electoral integrity and institutional independence.
