Manchester United have reopened negotiations with Napoli over the potential signing of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, according to reports from Foot Mercato. The Premier League giants are eager to bolster their attacking line ahead of the 2025–26 season and view Osimhen as the ideal striker to lead their frontline revival.
Osimhen, 26, appears increasingly unlikely to remain at Napoli beyond the summer. His future at the Italian club came into question following the appointment of Antonio Conte, who preferred Romelu Lukaku as his first-choice striker. As a result, Osimhen spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Turkish champions Galatasaray, where he delivered a sensational campaign — scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances, playing a pivotal role in securing the Super Lig title.
Ruben Amorim, newly appointed United manager, is believed to have greenlit the move, with fresh talks now underway between United and Osimhen’s representatives. Amorim is keen to rebuild a squad that narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 17th with a meager 44 goals scored in 38 league matches.
Current strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee underwhelmed throughout the season, failing to deliver the attacking returns expected. United are now prioritizing a proven goalscorer — and Osimhen, a former Lille star, tops the list.
However, the deal is far from straightforward. According to reports from Hobnob News, Osimhen is demanding a salary package in the region of €12 million per year. Napoli, meanwhile, are holding out for a transfer fee of €75 million, setting up what could be a drawn-out negotiation.
With the Red Devils in desperate need of a turnaround and Osimhen seemingly ready for a new chapter, all eyes will be on how talks progress in the coming weeks.
