Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Forwards 12 Commissioner Nominees to State Assembly for Confirmation

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has forwarded a list of 12 commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, four months after assuming office on February 24, 2025.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Thursday. The statement confirmed that a formal letter containing the nominees’ names had been sent to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

The governor, in his letter, emphasized that the nominations are in line with the powers vested in him by Section 192 (1 & 2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). He urged the Assembly to act swiftly in confirming the nominees to strengthen the state’s executive council, which currently comprises just two commissioners and a few Special Advisers.

Quoting the letter, Hobnob News reported: “I wish to forward to your esteemed office the following commissioner nominees for your kind consideration and confirmation of the House of Assembly. I shall be most obliged to the Honourable House for your expeditious action on this request in the overall interest of our dear state.”

The list of nominees includes several notable figures such as:

  • Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun – Former Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) and Former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA)
  • Abiola Olawoye – Current Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing
  • Ayodele Akande
  • Alabi Johnson
  • Amidu Takuro
  • Adewale Akinlosotu
  • Idowu Ajanaku
  • Dr. Oluwaseun Osamaye
  • Dr. Tob Loko
  • Olaolu Akindolire
  • Sunday Olajide
  • Henry Omoyofunmi

Governor Aiyedatiwa had earlier dissolved the previous cabinet on January 15, 2025, shortly before his swearing-in. Only two commissioners—Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, and Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac—were retained.

With these fresh nominations, the governor appears set to fully constitute his executive team, signaling a new phase in the administration’s policy direction and governance structure. The Assembly is expected to begin the confirmation process in the coming days.
