Authorities have invited a Nigerian man for questioning after a baby lion was discovered and removed from his residence on Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The lion, which had been kept as a pet in the upscale neighborhood, was relocated by the Lagos State Police to a wildlife reserve in the state for safety and proper care. The animal’s presence sparked concerns among residents before it was eventually removed without incident.
According to police sources, the lion’s owner is a Nigerian man who currently resides abroad but maintains the property in Lagos. He had reportedly hired an animal expert from a wildlife reserve in Bauchi State to manage the lion’s care.
In his statement to police, the man explained that the lion had been under his care for the past two months and consumes an average of 10 kilogrammes of meat daily — split between 5 kilogrammes in the morning and 5 kilogrammes in the evening.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the lion is safe and under professional care. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the man violated any laws concerning the possession and keeping of wild animals within residential areas.
