In a candid interview with ChannelsTV, Governor Iormem Alia expressed deep concern over the involvement of top politicians in supporting armed groups that threaten national security. He alleged that some influential lawmakers, despite their public roles in the National Assembly and presence in Abuja, are secretly sponsoring and sustaining these groups.
“It is very unsettling because top politicians who are very functional and are at the National Assembly and are in Abuja are the architects and arrowheads of just not instigating but harbouring and keeping these people and feeding them in the bush, taking care of their bills and buying all the other gadgets for them,” Governor Alia stated.
The governor described this practice as “extremely unacceptable,” emphasizing that such actions demonstrate a lack of genuine concern for the lives of the citizens these politicians claim to represent. According to him, these political figures prioritize their personal ambitions and battles for power over the welfare and security of their constituents.
“They do not love the lives of their people and always fighting for their political positions. I think I am serving the interests of the common masses. It is a concern to me, and it is my right to protect them,” Governor Alia added.
His remarks highlight growing frustrations within some state leadership circles over the persistent security challenges attributed to armed groups allegedly backed by political figures. The governor’s call underscores the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and concerted efforts to dismantle networks that fuel violence and instability.
The interview comes amid increasing national debates about the role of political interests in perpetuating insecurity, with many Nigerians demanding more decisive action to safeguard lives and restore peace.
