Celebrating Integrity: Nigerians Honour Retired Police Officer Francis Erhabor for Exemplary Service

In a nation where law enforcement often faces criticism over corruption and abuse of power, the name Francis Erhabor stands out as a beacon of integrity, discipline, and compassion. The retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, fondly known as Pastor Francis, is being widely celebrated for a career defined not by fear or power, but by fairness, humility, and unwavering moral standards.

Mr. Erhabor, who retired last year, was best known for transforming the Itam Police Station in Akwa Ibom State into a model of ethical policing—most notably by enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on extortion. “Bail is free” wasn’t just a slogan under his leadership; it was a reality he made happen and fiercely upheld.

Beyond his uniform, Francis Erhabor is also a pastor at Insight Bible Church and a children’s church teacher, roles through which he continues to shape lives with integrity and faith.

“This is the only policeman I know in Nigeria that wherever and whenever you mention his name, you would only hear beautiful things about him,” wrote one admirer. “Most times when I want to say all policemen are the same, I remember Pastor Francis, and I stop myself.”

As many across the country express admiration for the retired officer, a growing number have asked how best to honour him. In response, well-wishers are being encouraged to purchase his recently released book, I Dared to Be Different, a personal account of his time in the police force and the moral convictions that shaped his journey.

Rather than sending financial gifts, supporters are urged to buy the book—available on Amazon—as a meaningful way to support and share his story. For those in Uyo and nearby areas, hard copies can be purchased at Value Plus Mall, Oron Road, or directly through Pastor Francis.

The outpouring of appreciation reflects a larger truth: even in institutions often marred by controversy, there are individuals like Francis Erhabor who remind us that integrity is still possible—and deeply worth celebrating.
