Uzodimma Commissions Mega Gas Plant in Imo, Boosts Nigeria’s Energy Drive

Imo State is now firmly on the energy map following the official commissioning of the ANOH Gas Processing Plant by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The high-capacity facility, situated in Assah, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, is a strategic joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and Seplat Energy Plc. With an impressive installed capacity to produce 850 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, the plant marks a major leap toward energy security, industrial expansion, and environmental sustainability in Nigeria.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Uzodimma expressed immense satisfaction at the project’s completion, emphasizing the vast economic advantages it holds for Imo State and the nation at large. These include job creation, a surge in investment opportunities, and major upgrades to energy infrastructure.

“The commissioning of the ANOH Gas Plant is a bold declaration that Nigeria is serious about energy independence, industrialization, and clean energy,” Uzodimma stated. “This facility plays a crucial role in powering the Orashi Special Energy Free Trade Zone and driving development in Ohaji/Egbema and beyond.”

The plant is part of the Assa North-Ohaji South (ANOH) Gas Development Project — a flagship initiative under the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” program. The initiative seeks to maximize Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves for economic transformation, reduced gas flaring, and expanded access to cleaner energy solutions.

Governor Uzodimma noted that the plant’s daily output of 850 MMSCF is sufficient to power major industrial zones, enhance domestic gas supply, and significantly boost electricity generation.

With this commissioning, Hobnob News reports that Imo State and Nigeria at large have taken a defining step into a future powered by cleaner, more reliable energy.
