Former Labour Party spokesperson and Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has launched a scathing attack on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, blaming the President for the persistent killings and insecurity in parts of Nigeria, especially in Benue, Plateau, and other violence-ridden states.
In a fiery interview on News Central TV, Okonkwo expressed deep frustration with the government’s failure to address the rising wave of violence and banditry, particularly in the Middle Belt and northern regions. He said Nigerians are being killed daily, not because they committed any crime, but simply because President Tinubu is unable to protect them.
According to Hobnob News Nigeria, Okonkwo condemned those who continue to praise the administration, describing them as being out of touch with the suffering and bloodshed happening across the country.
“There is no way anybody will be praising this government and not appearing like a fool,” he said bluntly. “Are you praising this government? You are doing it on the blood and the graves of people massacred in Benue State. As I talk to you, people are dying every day—not because they committed any crime, but because Tinubu is their President who could not defend them.”
He further criticized the President’s controversial economic policies, citing the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira as devastating moves that have worsened living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.
“When they came in, Tinubu in his inauguration said the fuel subsidy is gone, and when he was saying that there was no cabinet in place,” Okonkwo noted. “Fuel price rose from ₦195 to ₦617 in one slope, then they floated the naira and it depreciated massively. The only defense they have is ‘be patient.’ Nigerians are hungry and they keep asking them to be patient—six months, one year, two years—how long?”
Turning his focus to the ongoing killings in Benue State, Okonkwo pointed out the tragic irony of a state governed by an APC member and Reverend Father, yet still ravaged by violence from terrorists and armed herders.
“Benue is an APC state governed by a Reverend Father. Spiritually, you’d think a man of God is in charge. Politically, it’s the same party as the President. Yet, they are being massacred every day and no end in sight. And some people still praise this government? They are doing it on the graves of Nigerians.”
He also referenced similar atrocities in Plateau State, the Northwest, and parts of the Southwest, accusing the Tinubu administration of failing to use intelligence reports effectively to prevent attacks.
“Kidnappers are discovered with graves and people are burned alive. Security reports for prevention are not taken seriously. But they’ll get reports when it comes to protecting politicians. Security is the most basic obligation of any government, and this one has failed woefully.”
Okonkwo’s comments come amid rising national frustration over insecurity, inflation, and a growing sense of helplessness among citizens. His remarks have reignited conversations on governance, accountability, and the cost of political loyalty in the face of national tragedy.
