PDP Crisis Deepens: Wike Withdraws from All Agreements, Vows to Fight Until Justice Prevails

Former Rivers State Governor and prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has officially withdrawn from all previous agreements reached with party stakeholders, declaring that he will continue to fight until justice is served within the troubled opposition party.

In a detailed statement issued over the weekend, Wike accused key members of the party, particularly Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of dishonesty, betrayal, and a blatant disregard for agreed resolutions. He stated that the PDP has been in a state of turmoil since the 2023 general elections due to a deep lack of trust among its leadership.

“The PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders,” Wike said. “Efforts have been made to arrest this virus and enthrone fidelity to agreements, but to no avail.”

Wike recounted several high-level meetings aimed at restoring unity and resolving internal disputes — including a G5 governors’ meeting in Lagos and a subsequent expanded meeting at the Abuja residence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki. According to him, these meetings yielded clear resolutions, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment and the withdrawal of all legal matters related to Rivers State.

However, Wike claims that those agreements were flagrantly violated almost immediately, with Makinde allegedly colluding with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to manipulate internal party decisions and processes — including attempts to replace Senator Anyanwu and override NEC protocols.

“It is disheartening that even before the Saraki Reconciliation Committee began its work, the gentleman’s agreement we reached was already being crudely violated,” Wike lamented. He pointed to the aborted PDP zonal congress in Jos as evidence of the dysfunction, blaming it on the use of an unauthorized signatory to notify INEC, which subsequently refused to recognize the process.

The former minister stressed that his dedication to the PDP since 1998 is unmatched, and despite his significant contributions to the electoral success of several governors, he has made no personal demands in return. His pain, he said, stems from the betrayal of trust and the continued undermining of the party’s integrity.

“I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained,” Wike declared.

The announcement marks a new chapter in the PDP’s internal crisis, raising concerns about further fragmentation as the party prepares for critical elections ahead of 2027. Political observers are watching closely to see how the PDP leadership will respond to Wike’s latest move and whether reconciliation remains possible.
