The Nigerian Army announced on Friday, May 23, 2025, that troops killed 21 terrorists during a raid on their enclaves in Katsina State. Some of the terrorists drowned while attempting to escape, while others were shot dead in a fierce firefight.
According to the Army’s statement on its X platform, soldiers from the Joint Task Force, North West—codenamed “Operation Fasan Yama”—attacked terrorist hideouts in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari Local Government Area. The terrorists were forced to abandon their camps and flee, leading to a pursuit during which 21 militants lost their lives, with several drowning in a nearby river.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including guns, magazines, explosives, communication devices, mobile phones, and motorcycles. The Army shared photographs of the deceased terrorists on social media, though the images were too graphic to be included in this report.
This development follows another successful military operation announced on Thursday, where Nigerian troops killed six Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. In that incident, soldiers working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) attacked insurgents looting food from a broken-down truck in Rann town.
The Army reported that troops and CJTF members spotted the insurgents on the highway while they were stealing food items, and launched a swift attack to neutralize them.
These coordinated efforts underscore the Nigerian military’s ongoing commitment to combating terrorism across the country.
