Otti Rolls Out 20 Electric Buses, Exposes Past Waste on Abandoned Road Project

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced the acquisition of 20 state-of-the-art electric buses, set to hit the roads within the next two months as part of his administration’s modern public transportation agenda.

Speaking during a grand thanksgiving carnival hosted by the Aba community at Umuagbai Secondary School, Port Harcourt Road, Otti said that dedicated bus terminals are already under construction, marking the first phase of a transformative transport system in the state.

“We’ve fully paid for 20 electric buses. These are the kinds of buses you see abroad—no petrol, no diesel, fully electric. They’ll soon be here to serve you and me,” the governor declared to cheers from the crowd.

In his address, Otti also disclosed how his administration rebuilt the long-abandoned Port Harcourt Road at a lower dollar value than what was previously spent by the immediate-past government, which failed to deliver the project.

“In 2017, N9.8 billion was paid for this same road and nothing happened. That was about $29 million at the exchange rate of N333 per dollar,” Otti said. “In 2025, we completed the road for N36.5 billion, which is about $22 million at N1,600 to the dollar. So who used public funds better?”

He emphasized that his performance is the best response to political critics, noting that real leadership is measured in results—not noise.

Governor Otti also rewarded a keke driver with N1.4 million for returning N2.4 million forgotten in his tricycle by a passenger, commending the act as a symbol of integrity and the values his administration supports.

Senator Darlington Nwokocha and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, both hailed Otti’s leadership, describing it as focused, progressive, and people-centered.

Business leaders and members of the Aba Landlords Association—including Chief David Onuoha, Chief Leo Okoye, Chief Alphonsus Odigbo, and Chief John Udeagba—expressed gratitude to the governor, stating that the event was organized to celebrate his achievements and ongoing impact on Aba’s transformation.

Chief Onyeka Udeajah, convener of the event, added, “Port Harcourt Road is not just a road; it is a statement of Governor Otti’s resolve to deliver lasting change.”
