Tinubu’s Second Anniversary: FCTA to Commission Major Infrastructure Projects in 19-Day Celebration

In celebration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced an ambitious 19-day commissioning program for major infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, was finalized during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA. A statement released by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the commissioning activities will commence on June 10, 2025, and span 19 consecutive days.

The FCTA is set to unveil a series of strategic projects aimed at improving urban transportation, access roads, and public infrastructure within the Federal Capital Territory. Some of the flagship projects to be inaugurated include:

  • Renovated Abuja International Conference Centre
  • Bus Terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi
  • Apo-Wassa Road Project
  • N16 Interchange
  • Maitama-Katampe-Jahi Link Roads
  • Inner Northern Expressway (Idu to Kubwa Road)
  • CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal
  • N20 Flyover at Onnex, Kubwa Road
  • Life Junction to Ring Road III Corridor

Additionally, rural-urban connectivity will be enhanced through the commissioning of roads such as:

  • Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti Access Roads
  • Giri District Access Road
  • 15km A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai, Kwali Area Council
  • Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint Roads in Bwari Area Council

These projects reflect the FCTA’s efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps and enhance mobility for residents across both urban and rural sections of the capital.

In a related development, the FCT Executive Committee approved the awarding of a contract to modernize the street lighting system along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I)—a 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway running from Maitama to Gudu.

Mr. Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), disclosed that the current lighting infrastructure, installed over 15 years ago, has become outdated and inadequate.

“The current streetlights no longer provide sufficient illumination, leaving many parts of the road in darkness at night,” Dauda said. “The new hybrid street lighting system will enhance visibility, safety, and motorability along this key route.”

Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized that this massive commissioning exercise is not only a celebration of President Tinubu’s achievements but also a testament to the FCTA’s commitment to infrastructure growth and urban development.

“This administration is focused on delivering real, tangible improvements to the lives of Abuja residents,” Wike noted. “These projects represent years of planning, investment, and execution aimed at transforming Abuja into a model capital.”

The 19-day event promises to showcase the administration’s progress and vision for a modern, well-connected, and efficiently managed Federal Capital Territory. As the countdown to June 10 begins, expectations are high that these infrastructure projects will significantly improve daily life for residents and signal a new chapter of growth under President Tinubu’s administration.
