The Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has stated that he remains on the wanted list of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Igboho criticised former Presidential Campaign Council director, Naja’atu Mohammed, for reportedly claiming he was freely moving around despite being declared wanted.
He was declared wanted by the Department of State Services for allegedly stockpiling arms and ammunition.
Naja’atu had earlier expressed concern over what she described as unequal treatment of separatist leaders, questioning the silence over Igboho’s activities while Nnamdi Kanu remained in prolonged detention. She also accused President Bola Tinubu of marginalising the North after benefitting from its electoral support in 2023.
In a statement released on Wednesday from Ibadan, Oyo State, Igboho described Naja’atu’s remarks as ignorant and baseless.
He said, “I’m still on the Federal Government’s wanted list, even under President Tinubu’s administration.”
He dismissed her claims as “unfounded and ridiculous,” and cautioned her against dragging his name into political propaganda.
According to him, “I currently travel using my German passport across Europe and other continents. I cannot return to Nigeria, having been declared wanted during the oppressive regime of former President Muhammadu Buhari. That status remains unchanged under the current government.
“My so-called offence was speaking out against the killings, attacks, and sexual violence by herders in South-West farming communities during Buhari’s tenure.
“On July 1, 2021, DSS and Nigerian Army operatives stormed my home in Ibadan. That violent raid lasted hours, resulting in the deaths of two of my associates and the arrest of 13 others.”
He added, “Out of Nigeria’s 16 presidents since independence, only two have been Yoruba – Obasanjo and Tinubu. Where was Naja’atu when Boko Haram and Fulani herders were terrorising both the North and South-West under Buhari’s rule?
“During that period, Abubakar Gumi, a cleric who negotiated between terrorists and the government, reportedly made millions of dollars.”
He accused Naja’atu of spreading falsehoods because the Tinubu administration has chosen to confront insurgency directly, rather than engaging individuals like Gumi. He warned her to leave his name out of her political commentary.
