ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly dismissed speculations linking him to a potential 2027 presidential bid, stating unequivocally that he has no intention to run against President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview with BBC News Pidgin on Saturday, the former Rivers State Governor addressed growing rumours suggesting he could seek the presidential ticket, especially if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decides to zone the candidacy to the South.
“I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” Wike said when asked directly about the possibility.
Reinforcing his loyalty to President Tinubu, Wike further expressed confidence in the President’s political dominance heading into the next election cycle. “There is nobody in the opposition that can challenge him,” he said.
Commenting on the ongoing zoning discussions within the PDP, Wike remarked, “They said they will zone it to the South — let them zone first. When we get to the bridge, we’ll know how to cross it.”
His remarks come amid heightened political speculation, but Wike has made it clear — his allegiance remains with President Tinubu, and he has no plans to join the 2027 presidential race.
