ASABA — In a chilling incident that shocked residents of Delta State, operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a woman who drugged a nursing mother using spiked juice and abducted her two-month-old baby boy during a business trip.
According to Hobnob News, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed the arrest and rescue of the baby during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Asaba. The child has since been reunited with his parents, bringing relief to the family and the wider community.
Providing details of the crime, Abaniwonda explained that the victim, a 20-year-old mother, embarked on a business trip on February 16, 2025, from Koko to Warri alongside the suspect, identified as Mrs. Joy. During the trip, the suspect allegedly offered the mother juice laced with a sedative, causing her to fall into a deep sleep, after which the suspect fled with the infant.
The case was reported to the DPO of Ekpan Police Station on April 7, 2025, prompting an intelligence-led investigation that eventually led to the arrest of the 49-year-old suspect.
“The suspect confessed during interrogation that she orchestrated the abduction,” CP Abaniwonda stated. “The baby, now five months old, has been safely recovered and returned to his family. The suspect remains in custody while investigation continues.”
The Delta Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to child safety and justice, urging citizens to be cautious and report suspicious activities promptly.
