The North-Eastern University, Gombe, has achieved a major academic milestone as it secured full accreditation for 12 academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC)—a development hailed as a boost to the university’s pursuit of excellence.
According to Hobnob News, the newly accredited programmes include Business Administration, International Relations, Accounting, Architecture, among others.
Speaking during the official announcement of the NUC’s assessment in Gombe, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Sani Jauro described the accreditation as a reflection of the university’s unwavering commitment to academic quality. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students,” he stated.
Dr. Jauro extended his appreciation to the Chancellor, Emir Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar III of Gombe, the Board of Trustees, and the NUC for their support, revealing that the institution earned an impressive average score of 91.4% across the accredited programmes.
Adding to the celebration, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Yusuph Amuda-Yahaya, shared that the university has also earned commendations from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria as well as the Architecture Registration Council of Nigeria. He noted that these commendations contributed to a significant increase in admission quotas, particularly for the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.) programme.
Looking ahead, Professor Yahaya disclosed that plans are in motion to seek accreditation for eight additional programmes by November/December 2025. He also revealed the launch of new academic programmes, including Political Science, Biotechnology, and Urban and Regional Planning, for which admissions are now open for the 2025/2026 academic session.
“We are committed to sustaining our standards and delivering transformative education to our students,” Yahaya affirmed.
