NAPTIP Rescues 2-Year-Old Sold for ₦100,000 in Trafficking Scheme, Suspect Nabbed in Abia

Hobnob News Report:

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued a two-year-old girl trafficked from Abuja to Aba, Abia State, in a disturbing child trafficking case that involved a sale for just ₦100,000.

According to a statement posted on NAPTIP’s official Facebook page on Friday, the toddler—temporarily renamed Chiamaka Favor (alias)—was rescued on May 8, 2025, by officials of NAPTIP’s Abia Command. The suspect involved was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and handed over to the agency for further investigation.

The agency revealed that the suspect is believed to be linked to three separate trafficking syndicates operating out of Abuja, and sold the child to an unnamed buyer in Aba.

“A 2-year-old girl, renamed Chiamaka Favor (alias), who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba in February 2025, has been rescued by NAPTIP Abia Command on May 8, 2025,” the statement read.

“The suspected trafficker, arrested by DSS Abia and handed over to NAPTIP, is alleged to have worked with three trafficking syndicates from Abuja and sold the child to a buyer for ₦100,000. Investigations are ongoing.”

In a heartfelt appeal, NAPTIP is urging the biological parents or any relatives of the child to come forward and contact the agency immediately to help facilitate a family reunion.

This incident follows an earlier report by Hobnob News in April, detailing how NAPTIP, in partnership with the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, rescued eight children trafficked from their homes to locations including Aba, Onitsha, and parts of Imo State, after being deceived and relocated under false pretenses.

The agency continues to intensify its fight against human trafficking and child exploitation across Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to protecting vulnerable children from such heinous crimes.
