Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP presidential candidate, criticised politicians who switch parties after gaining public support, calling it the greatest political betrayal. At his residence in Kano, he welcomed defectors from Takai Local Government into the NNPP. Amid recent defections to the APC, Kwankwaso praised the movement’s resilience since 2015, saying, “We all know the history of this movement… But thank God, the movement did not derail.”
Reflecting on electoral setbacks, he stated, “When the 2019 elections came… the most recent one also taught us valuable lessons.” He stressed that the movement is people-focused, not money-driven: “This movement is for the people… It’s not about money… Some people collected spaghetti and N2,000… But in Kano, the poor stood firm.”
Kwankwaso condemned defections: “This is the highest form of betrayal… Had the people known, they wouldn’t have voted for you.” He warned against opposing Kwankwasiyya: “One may not understand until he engages in that fight.” Urging unity, he said, “Whether you’re in this movement with or without an appointment… Go back to your communities and bring more people on board.”
He closed by reaffirming the movement’s mission: “This movement… favours the people… Our constant goal is to uplift the common man.”
