In his first public statement since his release from EFCC custody, controversial social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has leveled serious allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and GTBank.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, VeryDarkMan claimed that his phone, which he alleges contains crucial evidence, has been tampered with, preventing him from accessing his iCloud account. He expressed concern that the EFCC might manipulate the data stored on the device. He stated, “Dear EFCC, as we are about to become friends in the quest for a better Nigeria, we have to start with integrity and clean hands. We cannot start with lies…”
He further added, “And as for @gtbank, I will be needing some explanations o.”
These remarks come amid ongoing investigations into allegations that EFCC officers accepted a N15 million bribe from socialite Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, to dismiss money laundering charges against him. The House of Representatives has summoned EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan to provide clarity on the matter. The EFCC has also invited both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to assist in the inquiry.
VeryDarkMan has previously accused the EFCC of attempting to frame him due to his outspoken criticism of the agency. He alleged that a prominent lawyer and a social media influencer visited the EFCC headquarters with evidence, including videos and photographs, to implicate him. He claimed, “EFCC Abuja, I heard you people had two visitors today—one of them an influencer and the other one a very big, influential lawyer. I know you would be wondering how I found out, but the truth is that I have informants in your office. They brought one or two clips about me and a picture of where I was spraying money. They said this is an opportunity for you to go after VeryDarkMan.”
The allegations have sparked widespread discussions on social media, with many questioning the transparency and integrity of the EFCC. The public awaits the outcome of the investigations to determine the veracity of these claims and the future of the individuals involved.
As the situation develops, VeryDarkMan’s warning serves as a reminder of the ongoing scrutiny faced by Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies and the individuals who challenge them.
