Panic and grief gripped the Tudun Kauri area of Lafia on Thursday following the gruesome murder of a 37-year-old staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Yusuf Ibrahim Kasimu.
The incident occurred near the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, close to the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) premises, shocking residents and raising fresh concerns over the rising wave of violence in the state capital.
Kasimu was found face-down in a pool of blood with severe head injuries, an apparent victim of a brutal attack. Eyewitnesses believe he may have been killed by individuals he attempted to assist, who then assaulted him and fled the scene with his motorcycle.
His identity remained unknown until distraught relatives arrived and confirmed it was Yusuf.
Speaking to reporters, his uncle, Umaru Kasimu, described the incident as a “tragic and senseless loss,” calling on authorities to ensure justice is served. “We demand justice,” he said. “This kind of evil must not go unpunished.”
The murder has intensified concerns among Lafia residents over the deteriorating security situation, with many calling on law enforcement agencies to strengthen patrols and surveillance in vulnerable areas.
As of the time of this report, police are yet to release an official statement on the incident or confirm whether any suspects have been identified or apprehended.
