The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced another significant blow on Thursday as three of its members in the House of Representatives from Katsina State officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their letters of defection were read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The lawmakers—Abdullahi Balarabe (Bakori/Danja), Abubakar Albaba Aliyu (Batasari/Safana/Dan-Musa), and Yusuf Majigiri (Mashi/Dutsi)—cited deep-rooted internal crises within the PDP as the reason for their exit.
Balarabe described the situation within the PDP as a “protracted crisis” that had hampered effective political engagement, while Aliyu pointed to a “lack of cohesiveness” within the party. Majigiri added that his departure was driven by what he termed “a high level of internal crisis without cure.”
Their defection was notably witnessed by prominent APC figures, including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, the APC State Chairman Muhammad Ali, and other top party officials, who were present in the House chamber to mark the occasion.
The move underscores growing instability within the PDP, particularly in Katsina, and highlights the APC’s strategic inroads ahead of future political contests.
