An alarming case from Anambra State has drawn widespread concern as an 18-year-old apprentice reportedly impregnated ten girls within a five-month span, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl.
According to reports, the teenager was initially sent to learn a trade under a master, but within just three months, he had impregnated both his master’s daughter and another female staff member. Following the incident, he was dismissed from the apprenticeship.
The State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, revealed the situation during a live broadcast on social media on Wednesday, noting that the issue worsened after the boy returned to his village. “Two months after leaving his apprenticeship, he went on to impregnate eight more girls in the community,” she said.
Obinabo shared the distress of the boy’s mother, who visited her office for help. “She told me, ‘Anytime I see a girl approaching our house, my heart jumps. Please, I need help,’” the Commissioner recounted.
Expressing concern over the scale and complexity of the issue, Obinabo admitted, “This matter is beyond my capacity. That’s why I’m calling on the public to offer advice or possible solutions — is it spiritual, psychological, or something else entirely?”
When questioned on how he was able to persuade the girls, the boy reportedly claimed he simply expressed love and promised marriage once he became wealthy.
While the identities of the boy, his family, and their community have not been disclosed, the Commissioner emphasized the urgency of intervention and appealed to the public for insights.
