The trial of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader **Mazi Nnamdi Kanu** resumed at the **Federal High Court in Abuja** amid heated clashes between prosecution and defense teams over document handling.
Kanu arrived under tight security as the prosecution, led by **SAN Adegboyega Awomolo**, called its second witness, who alleged Kanu incited violence and formed the **Eastern Security Network (ESN)** as IPOB’s armed wing. During cross-examination, the witness admitted ignorance of a prior court ruling dismissing some charges, including **“terrorism and incitement to destroy public property”**—a fact the defense emphasized.
Kanu’s legal team, headed by ex-Attorney General **Kanu Agabi (SAN)**, objected to the prosecution’s attempt to submit new documents without prior service. **Justice Omotosho** upheld the defense, stressing **“fair hearing and due process”** and requiring evidence to be shared beforehand. A disputed letter from a former Attorney General was withdrawn after the defense and judge confirmed they had never seen it.
The defense—including **Aloy Ejimakor, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and Emeka Etiaba (SAN)**—demanded access to all prosecution materials, arguing late submissions harmed their case. As tensions rose, the prosecution sought an adjournment to properly serve documents, which the court granted.
**Justice Omotosho** adjourned proceedings to **Tuesday, May 7, 2025**, for further witness examination and noted an upcoming application regarding Kanu’s confiscated belongings.
