A 28-year-old man, Jibrin Ali, from Zandar, Niger Republic, has been arrested for impersonating a military officer in the Yankari Game Reserve, Alkeleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State. The arrest was confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement released on Friday.
Ali was apprehended during a routine patrol by detectives from the Alkeleri Divisional Police Headquarters, working with local security operatives. Wakil explained that Ali was found impersonating a military officer and displaying suspicious behavior in an area known for bandit activity.
The police spokesperson added, “Jibrin was found impersonating as military personnel and displaying suspicious behaviour in an area known for bandit activity, and his arrest was met with resistance.” Upon questioning, Ali failed to provide a credible explanation for his presence in the forest, which raised concerns about potential links to criminal groups operating in the region.
The suspect’s arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in Bauchi State, particularly in areas vulnerable to banditry. Authorities are continuing their investigation into Ali’s background and possible connections to criminal networks.
