LAGOS – Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested renowned Lagos socialite and businessman, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, popularly known as E-Money, over alleged abuse of the Nigerian Naira and defacement of foreign currency.
According to sources within the anti-graft agency, E-Money was taken into custody late Monday night at his Omole residence in Lagos. His arrest follows allegations that he sprayed U.S. dollars at public events, a practice considered a violation of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act and currency handling laws.
A source familiar with the operation disclosed: “E-Money was arrested for acts including Naira abuse and defacing of foreign currencies. He is specifically alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which contravenes financial regulations.”
It was further gathered that E-Money was immediately flown to Abuja for further interrogation by EFCC investigators.
Although multiple sources confirmed the arrest, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment when contacted by Hobnob News.
E-Money’s arrest adds to the growing list of high-profile individuals recently apprehended over currency-related offences, signaling the EFCC’s intensified crackdown on financial misconduct and the public mishandling of legal tender.
