Two individuals kidnapped along the Igbara-Odo/Ikere-Ekiti Road on Saturday evening have regained their freedom, thanks to the swift intervention of security forces.
Sources revealed that the victims were travelling from Igbara-Odo to Ikere-Ekiti when their vehicle suffered a punctured tyre around 7:30 p.m. While attempting to repair it, unidentified gunmen emerged from the nearby bush, brandished firearms, and abducted them.
The incident triggered an immediate response from the Ekiti State Police Command and local non-state security groups. Their coordinated efforts led to the successful rescue of the victims.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with community security actors, launched a rescue operation.
“Upon receipt of the information, the command mobilized its operatives into the forest along that axis for their possible rescue and the arrest of the perpetrators.
The operation paid off when the operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee with gunshot injuries and abandon the victims,” Abutu stated.
The rescued victims were immediately transported to a medical facility for treatment and have since been reunited with their families.
Speaking further, Abutu emphasized the Ekiti State Police Command’s commitment to safeguarding residents and urged the public to remain vigilant, security-conscious, and supportive of law enforcement efforts to combat crime.
The incident, extensively covered by Hobnob News, highlights the growing synergy between state forces and community security outfits in tackling insecurity across the region.
