Amid concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Northern Nigeria, the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has assured newly deployed corps members of their safety and well-being during their service year in the state.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development, and Creativity, Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, during the formal induction of the 2025 Batch A corps members on Friday, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting all NYSC members across the state.
“Indeed, our nation is currently grappling with security challenges, and Benue is not spared. However, let me assure you that the government, in collaboration with all security agencies, has put in place solid measures to ensure your safety during your stay,” he stated.
He stressed that strategic plans have been implemented to secure all corps lodges and locations within the state, adding that corps members’ welfare remains a top priority.
The governor also urged corps members to embrace the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a vital platform to unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Use your unique talents and experiences to shape your future and impact the society positively,” he added.
In her remarks, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Veronica Garba, commended the Benue State Government for its continuous support. She encouraged the new corps members to actively participate in the four key aspects of the orientation course: physical training, intellectual and motivational lectures, sporting activities, and the SAED programme.
The swearing-in ceremony of 1,600 corps members was presided over by Justice Peter Ukande, representing the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambeae.
