Hobnob News, Oyo — A tragic incident unfolded in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday, as an unidentified man was electrocuted while attempting to fix a fault on a live high-tension power line.
According to a statement released on Friday by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Canon Yemi Akinyinka, the deceased, believed to be an electrician, was working on a 33KV high-tension cable belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company at the Odi Babaode area when the accident occurred.
“He was electrocuted while trying to rectify an electrical fault on the active power lines without deactivating the feeder,” Akinyinka confirmed.
The Fire Service acted swiftly following a distress call received at exactly 15:29hrs on April 23, 2025, from one Adelanre Adeyinka. A rescue team led by Peluola Babatunde was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Unfortunately, by the time the team arrived, the victim had already succumbed to the electric shock. His remains were recovered and handed over to officers from the Eruwa Police Station for further investigation,” the GM said.
Akinyinka used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of safety and professionalism in handling electrical faults.
“Handling active electrical equipment must be left strictly to trained engineers or certified technicians. Life has no duplicate,” he warned.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with high-voltage electricity and the critical need for adherence to safety protocols at all times.
