In a resounding display of political unity, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo North Senatorial District has thrown its full weight behind Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s re-election bid for a second term in the Nigerian Senate.
The unanimous endorsement came during a high-level APC caucus meeting held in Iyamho, Oshiomhole’s hometown, following a strategic security summit hosted by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. The meeting served a dual purpose—addressing regional security challenges and setting the party’s political course ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Media Assistant to the Minister of Regional Development, the endorsement effectively seals the APC ticket in Edo North for Oshiomhole. “There is no contention over who flies the party’s flag in Edo North,” the statement read.
Present at the pivotal meeting were notable APC figures including the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh; former Minister of Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba; party elder Chief Francis Alimikhena; South-South political strategist Dr. Blessing Agbomhere; Hon. Dekeri Anamero; Chief Abu; Chief Ohimai; Ernest Umakhihe and others.
It was during deliberations that Engr. Momoh posed the decisive question: Should Senator Oshiomhole return to the Senate in 2027? The response, as captured in the official statement, was immediate and emphatic—a thunderous, unanimous “Yes!” that echoed across the hall. The gathering then declared symbolically and decisively: “No vacancy in Edo North Senate seat.”
The endorsement is viewed as a strategic move aimed at ensuring legislative continuity and maintaining strong representation for the district at the federal level. Senator Oshiomhole, a former governor and ex-APC national chairman, has earned a reputation for his passionate advocacy and vibrant presence in the Senate.
“Senator Oshiomhole has consistently shown unwavering dedication to both Edo North and national development. This endorsement is a reflection of the trust and confidence we have in his leadership,” said a senior APC stalwart.
Before the endorsement, stakeholders joined Governor Okpebholo for a security summit focused on tackling rising crime in Etsako, Owan, and Akoko-Edo communities. The summit culminated in a robust security action plan featuring enhanced surveillance, community policing, and inter-agency collaboration.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the urgency of the issue, stating, “We must first secure our homes before we can discuss development. Today’s summit marks a crucial step toward achieving lasting security.”
