The Ogun State Government, through its Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), on Tuesday sealed four industries across the state for various environmental infractions.
The affected companies are Fortune Height Farms Limited and Sanda Wood Industry Limited, both located in Odogbolu Local Government Area; Shengceramic Material Limited, situated in the Ogere axis along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway; and Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited, located along Ijako in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Speaking on the enforcement action, Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA and Chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Mr. Farouk Akintunde, said Fortune Height Farms, which specializes in egg and catfish production, was sealed following a petition from the host community over improper waste disposal practices.
Sanda Wood Industry Limited was shut down for denying access to government officials and for engaging in open burning, a violation of state environmental regulations.
Meanwhile, Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited was accused of encroaching on waterways and constructing drainage systems without the required permits, prompting the agency to act swiftly to prevent further environmental hazards.
Mr. Akintunde emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations, stating, “Ogun State government will not fold its hands and allow these industries to violate our environmental laws. We are committed to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.”
He reiterated the administration’s resolve, under Governor Dapo Abiodun, to enforce environmental compliance across all sectors and warned that any industry found flouting the law would face similar sanctions.
