FG Releases N50bn to University Unions, Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Education

The Federal Government has released N50 billion to federal university academic and non-academic staff unions to settle earned allowances, fulfilling a pledge made by President Bola Tinubu. The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, made the announcement on Wednesday through a statement titled “FG Releases N50bn Earned Allowances to Varsity Unions, Tinubu Reaffirms Education Priority”, issued by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education.

Boriowo said the move “stands as yet another testament to Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector.” She added that it reflects the administration’s aim to shift the country from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.

Dr Alausa described the payment as “not just a financial transaction—it is a reaffirmation of our President’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youth.” He said the government was “laying the foundation for a future where every Nigerian child receives highly qualitative and globally competitive education.”

Tinubu thanked the unions for their cooperation, noting that “the youth are the heartbeat of our country,” and reaffirmed his commitment to end strikes in universities.
