In a significant stride toward strengthening grassroots governance and community development, the North Central Zonal Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Nick Wende, FNIOB, joined the Honourable Member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Hon. Terseer Ugbor, to officially commission a newly constructed and fully furnished Traditional Council Hall in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.

In his keynote remarks, Hon. Wende commended Hon. Ugbor for what he described as a “remarkable and visionary achievement,” noting that the facility stands as a visible and lasting symbol of democratic dividends. He stressed the importance of supporting traditional institutions, stating that “traditional leaders play a vital role in the development, stability, and moral guidance of their communities and should be equipped with the tools and infrastructure to perform their duties effectively.”
Hon. Wende further highlighted that the new hall would not only serve as a center for traditional deliberations but also act as a convergence point for communal dialogue, cultural preservation, and local decision-making processes. “By investing in this project,” he said, “Hon. Ugbor has shown his deep respect for tradition and an unwavering commitment to grassroots development.”
Turning his attention to the broader political landscape, Hon. Wende used the opportunity to encourage party faithful within the constituency to remain steadfast and united. Acknowledging the challenges currently facing the nation, he assured constituents that better days are ahead. “We will get through these challenging times,” he stated confidently. “Normalcy will soon return. Our focus must remain on building strong institutions and delivering tangible benefits to our people.”
The newly inaugurated Traditional Council Hall features modern meeting spaces, administrative offices, and cultural adornments that reflect the rich heritage of the Ushongo people. It is expected to serve as the official venue for the council of traditional rulers, community engagements, and other civic functions.
In his own address, Hon. Terseer Ugbor expressed gratitude to his constituents for their continued support and reiterated his dedication to fostering development across all communities in the Kwande/Ushongo axis. He emphasized the role of infrastructure in empowering local governance and pledged to continue pursuing projects that promote inclusiveness and sustainable growth.
Traditional rulers in attendance praised the initiative, describing it as a turning point in the recognition and empowerment of traditional authority within the local government area. One of the elders, remarked, “This hall will not only bring dignity to our meetings but also unite us as custodians of culture and tradition.”
As the ribbon was cut and the doors to the new hall swung open, the mood in Lessel was one of celebration and hope. With this milestone, the people of Ushongo are looking forward to a future where tradition and modern governance walk hand in hand toward progress.
